Colson Whitehead Wins Hammett

The International Association of Crime Writers/North America (IACW/NA) announced that CROOK MANIFESTO, by Colson Whitehead (Doubleday) is the winner for the 2024 Hammett Award as the best book published in 2023 for literary excellence in crime writing.

The Hammett Award-winning novel is the second installment in the series featuring Harlem furniture store owner and ex-fence Ray Carney, following HARLEM SHUFFLE (2021).

The location of the award presentation of the 2024 Hammett Award will be announced soon. (July 18, 2024)



S.A. Cosby Wins Maltese Falcon

The Maltese Falcon Society of Japan has announced that S.A. Cosby is the winner of the 2024 Maltese Falcon Award for RAZORBLADE TEARS (Flatiron Books, 2021) as the best hardboiled/private eye novel published in Japan in the previous year. Shawn Cosby will receive a wood-crafted Falcon statuette. (July 17, 2024)
