MY LIMITED BOOKMARKS #3
Here is a list of my limited bookmarks--some are mystery-related, some are not. Since you can construct a psychological profile on anybody by looking at his/her book case, record rack or browser bookmarks, I don't dare to show you all my bookmarks. Now that I write a monthly column on the mystery scene in cyberspace for Hayakawa's Mystery Magazine, a Japanese magazine with stories, reviews, columns, photos and other interesting things, I frequently visit these following sites.

IACW's North American Branch covers both Canada and the United States.

A new organization promotes the short mystery fiction, of which I am a historian/archivist. To become a member, subscribe to shortmystery-l-digest by e-mailing to subscribe-shortmystery@telelists.com, with the subject line and the body blank. It issues the almost quarterly newsletter, The Short Order, with my regular column, "Shoot--I mean, Ask Away."

The SoCal chapter covers the southern Cal and the southern Nevada.
- MWA Northern California Chapter
The NorCal chapter of the Mystery Writers of America covers the territory above the 36th parellel of California and Nevada.

The SW chapter covers the southwest corner of the USA.

- The Femmes Fatales
A group of woman writers: Deborah Adams, Mignon Ballard, Susan Rogers Cooper, Charlaine Harris, Toni L. P. Kelner, D. R. (Doris) Meredith, Marlys Millhiser, and Elizabeth Daniels Squire.
- American Crime Writers League's Home Page
The American Crime Writers League is a professional writers' organization. You have to be a pro to join it, but you don't have to pay for the membership to visit this site. Especially its members' bibliography page is very helpful.
- Sisters in Crime
Sister in Crime (SinC) is an organization of mystery writers, readers, librarians, editors, booksellers and reviewers to promote mystery fiction written by women writers. Sinc is celebrating its 10th anniversary in 1997.

- Malice Domestic
Malice Domestic is an annual convention that salutes "mysteries of manners"--or so-called cozy mysteries. The convention is held in Washington, D. C. and gives out Agatha awards. It is always filled up, so register soon.

Magna cum Murder's Annual Confernece has been held at Ball State University in Muncie, Indiana.
- Nuns, Mothers and Others
The four weird sisters of mystery writing are Lee Harris, Jonnie Jacobs, Lora Roberts and Valerie Wolzien.
- The Historical Mystery Appreciation Societey----Thanks for a link to TGS
The society is dedicated to the spirit of Edith Mary Pargeter, aka Ellis Peters, creator of the Brother Cadfeal mysteries. This site tells what the society is all about and how to subscribe to its journal, MURDER: PAST TENSE, whose publisher/editor is Sue Feder.
- The Agatha Christie Society
This organization was launched in 1933 under the guidenace of Mathew Prichard, Christie's grandson, now the Society Chairman. David Suchet, a Poirot on TV, and H.R.F. Keating are Society Vice-Presidents.
- The Crime Writers' Association of Australia
CWAA issues its official newsletter, Ned Kelly News, and gives out the Ned Kelly Awards annually.
- Mystery Women
Mystery Women is a group of mystery writers and readers in the United Kingdom.
- The Unusual Suspects
The Usual Suspects are a group of mystery writers -- Natasha Cooper, Leslile Forbes, Manda Scott, Michelle Spring, Andrew Taylor, and Laura Wilson.
- Friends of Mystery
Friends of Mystery is a non-profit literary/educational organization in Portland, Oregon. It sponsors a series of public meetings, publishes a newsletter, The Blood-Letter, and gives the Spotted Owl award annually.
- The Wolfe Pack
The Wolfe Pack is the fan club of Nero Wolfe and Archie Goodwin and their creator Rex Stout.
- The Private Eye Writers of America
PWA webspage is a part of the website of Robert J. Randisi, founder of PWA.

Finally The Mysterious Bookshop has opened its own web site, even though its owner Otto Penzler does not seem to like a computer.
- Partners & Crime
The mystery bookstore in Greenwich Village, New York, run by John Douglas and his partners. The bookstore gives out the Nevermore awards the night before the Edgar dinner. You can find out who won the Nevermore awards in 1996 and in 1997. This site started to feature preview excerpts from the new novels by Charles Todd, (WINGS OF FIRE), Charles Knief (SAND DOLLARS), Harlan Coben (ONE FALSE MOVE), and Lee Child (DIE TRYING).

Probably the largest used bookstore on the Internet to find reading copies of old paperbacks and back issues of old digest magazines.
- Mysteries from the Yard
It has a book search service which looks for used paperbacks and first editions.
- The Space-Crime Continuum
A science fiction and mystery bookstore in Northampton, Massachusetts.
- Amazon.Com
The arguably earth's biggest bookstore on the Internet. There are a lot of interview pages with mystery writers in the Mystery & Thrillers section. Recently Otto Penzler joined the mystery editorial staff, picking the best mystery books of the month.
- Barnes & Noble
Finally Barnes & Noble has set up its own cybershop. There is a Mystery Scene page managed by Ed Gorman. Sorry, there is no Starbucks coffee shop.
- Borders.com
Another bookstore chain to threaten independent bookstores has a mystery section.
- Murder Is Served

I have been buying Mysterious Press books since Otto Penzler founded it...well, a long time ago. Now The Mysterious Press is part of Time Warner Book Group or something. The TWBookmark.com Fiction page offers "The Thriller of the Month" contest. The thing is that the contest is open to residents of the continental USA and Canada only.
