The International Association of Crime Writers/North America (IACW/NA) announced that CROOK MANIFESTO, by Colson Whitehead (Doubleday) is the winner for the 2024 Hammett Award as the best book published in 2023 for literary excellence in crime writing.
The Hammett Award-winning novel is the second installment in the series featuring Harlem furniture store owner and ex-fence Ray Carney, following HARLEM SHUFFLE (2021).

Alafair Burke Receives Pinckley Prize
Alafair Burke has received the 2023 Pinckley Prize for her Distinguished Body of Work from Women's National Book Association of New Orleans (WNBA-NO), to honor "an established woman writer who has created a significant body of work in crime fiction."
Margot Douaihy has received the 2023 Pinckley Prize for Debut Fiction for SCORCHED GRACE (Gillian Flynn/Zando, 2023), which is the first book in the Sister Holiday Mystery series, while Sascha Rothchild has received the 2022 Pinckley Prize for Debut Fiction for BLOOD SUGAR (Penguin/Putnam, 2022).
The recipients were selected by a panel of Pinckley Prize judges. Pinckley Prizes for Crime Fiction was established in 2012 "to honor the memory of Diana Pinckley (1952-2012), a longtime crime fiction columnist for The New Orleans Times-Picayune, and her passion for mysteries." (April 23, 2024)

Friends of Mystery, a non-profit mystery organization based in Portland, Oregon, announced at their meeting on March 28 that BREADKNECK, by Marc Cameron (Kensington Books, 2023) is the 2024 Spotted Owl Awrd winner as the best mystery novel written by the Pacific Northwest writer published in the previous year. On December 02 at the Black Orchid Banquet held in New York City, the Wolfe Pack, the official Nero Wolfe literary society, announced that THE DAY HE LEFT, by Frederick Weisel (Poisoned Pen Press, 2022) won the 2023 Nero Award. The winning novel was the second in the Santa Rosa Violent Crime Investigations Team Mystery.
On the same night, "Alibi in Ice" by Libby Cudmore received the 2023 Black Orchid Nevella Award. The winning novella will be published in the July 2024 issue of Alfred Hitchcock's Mystery Magazine. (December 04, 2023)

Pascal Engman won the 2023 Petrona Award for FEMICIDE (Legend Press, 2022; translated from the Swedish by Michael Gallagher) as the best Scandinavian crime novel of the year.
"The Petrona Award is open to crime fiction in translation, either written by a Scandinavian author or set in Scandinavia, and published in the UK in the previous calendar year," according to its award organizsers. (October 15, 2023)
